  2. Roman emperor from 270.  A successful 
  3. soldier, he was chosen emperor by his troops
  4. on the death of Claudius II.  He defeated the
  5. Goths and Vandals, defeated and captured
  6. Zenobia of Palmyra, and was planning a
  7. campaign against Parthia when he was 
  8. murdered.  The Aurelian Wall, a fortification
  9. surrounding Rome, was built by Aurelian 271. 
  10. It was made of concrete, and substantial 
  11. ruins exist.  The Aurelian Way ran from Rome
  12. through Pisa and Genoa to Antipolis (Antibes)
  13. in Gaul.
